Must Do 2

______________________________________

Today I want to present a wellness challenge. I was thinking of some of my personal goals today. I am so well meaning. But I am like everybody else. I have all these fabulous goals and then life gets in the way. I was writing my parenting tip for the week on Mentoring Simply Put, and I realized how much of what I wrote applies to us adults.

We want to change so many things that we can end up changing none of them. I don't know about you, but I tend to take on too much. For instance, I want to get back to better fitness. Imagine that! So, I know what that means, diet change, exercise change, even mindset change. Phrases like, "This (extra desert, skipped exercise, etc) won't matter" need to stop.

Seriously, those big goals can be daunting and overwhelming. But real change is about small adjustments practiced over time that take us to those bigger plateaus. Here is my wellness challenge starting this week.

What is your Must Do 2? Two things you agree to do for yourself every day that build your personal sense of wellness. Losing weight, getting more organized is not what I am talking about here. It's the small daily changes we commit to that build a path to these bigger goals. Is it a 10 minute walk? Calling one friend that builds you up? Taking a 2 minute time out every few hours? Stopping your day to sit and eat lunch? Taking 5 minutes to make your bed in the morning because it makes you feel better?

What are two things you could do that are easy, that would give you the most "bang for the buck?" What are two things you could commit to that you are almost guaranteed to succeed?

What if you take on my wellness challenge and commit to your Must Do 2 wellness changes? They are different for all of us.

I am sharing my Must Do 2 in the comments section of this article. Check it out. And consider sharing yours. You can share your name or keep it anonymous. It's up to you. But write it down and make it real. Then practice it every day and see what changes come!

Remember to make the moment happen!

  1. My Must Do 2 will be getting some kind of exercise/walk every day, even for 10 minutes...and I will take a cold drink with me when I go on errands. A small gesture to refresh me and keep me hydrated. Feel free to share your goals! It's easy and will make your goals more real.

  2. Thanks for doing this, Maria! I will actually stop and eat my lunch. I never take time for myself so I am going to do nothing for 5 or 10 minutes in the morning, just have my coffee and sit.

  3. Thats a great idea. Sometimes the best thing we can do for ourselves is to stop.

  4. Take an extra five minutes putting myself together in the morning. Call my sister for my afternoon laugh. We can laugh at anything.

  5. I always eat on the run come to think of it. I don't allow myself to sit and enjoy food. You know what? I will make that my goal. Thanks Maria for this blog!

    Peace and Blessings,

  6. Thanks for all these great comments! Ty, you are right, stoping to eat is a great way to take care of ourselves..and something most of us forget...peace to you as well. And remembering to hook up with that friend or family member that understands us...that can make the difference in a day. Thanks everyone! Keep them coming!

  7. I promise to play with my dog every day and change when I get home from work into something that is comfortable.

  8. Playing with our pets is a great way to destress. Research proves over and over that having pets helps boost our mood, so taking a few minutes to play or cuddle with our pets can make everything better!

  9. I like this idea. I am trying to get up and stretch every couple of hours. Maybe that will reduce my achiness at the end of the day. Plus, I will keep my favorite music on during the day. It always puts me in the right mood.

  10. I have been trying to take 5 minute breaks since I read this. It's not so hard to remember when its only one thing. I feel better, Maria. Thanks.
